Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Adult and Senior / Health and Wellness -
Adult Enrichment 2024-2025

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a program based on the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness involves bringing a fullness of attention to whatever is happening in our lives, as it’s happening, without judgment. The willingness to stop and be present leads to seeing and relating to life with more clarity and directness. Paying attention allows for choosing our responses to life’s situations rather than reacting out of habit or fear. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is for anyone who experiences stress in their life and thinks they might be able to manage it better. And more than that, it offers a way of being present to our lives so that we don't miss out on the beauty and joy that is also there. It is about balancing all our "doing" with a chance to "be" and in the process it can provide a path to more peace, clarity and well being. This well-respected program was developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

MBSR provides tools to help you take better care of your health and discover a greater sense of peace and wellbeing. It can help your ability to:

  • Relax
  • focus
  • find balance and stability
  • access inner strength and wisdom

And handle more skillfully:

  • Stress
  • chronic pain
  • fear
  • anxiety
  • high blood pressure
  • insomnia
  • and many other medical conditions

This 8-week class will run 6-9pm on the first and last days and includes an All-Day Retreat on Saturday, October 19th. The program includes: Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation, gentle stretching and yoga, Qi Gong, and large and small group discussions. You will be asked to attend all classes and to practice daily for ~30 minutes. Please include your email address with registration because the instructor will send detailed information to participants prior to the first session.

No refunds are given after session starts.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is cosponsored by Park Nicollet.
