Kyudo Japanese Longbow Archery

Adult and Senior / Fitness -
Adult Enrichment 2023-2024

Influenced by the culture of Japan’s samurai warriors, Imperial Court, and Shinto and Buddhist traditions, Kyudo is practiced as a means to self-improvement. The non-competitive and introspective nature of Japanese archery allows practitioners to gain insight into their personalities. Individual instruction is given by Carly Born (Renshi 5th dan) and John Born (5th dan). Visit www.mnkyudo.org for more information.

*Instructors will collect an additional $25 to cover the cost of your own practice bow. Annual membership in the Minnesota Kyudo Renmei association is required for returning students. Loaner equipment provided for most adults.

Instructor

John Born

Carly and John Born began their study of Kyudo in 1997 in Niigata, Japan. Their love for this unique art endured when they returned to the United States in 1999, and they have since been active in American and international Kyudo communities and events. While pursuing their own study and advancing in rank, they have introduced hundreds of people to Kyudo through community education courses, frequent demonstrations at cultural festivals, and traditional archery competitions.
