    Fading Ads of the Twin Cities

    Do you remember seeing those old painted ads on the sides of buildings for Coca-Cola, Grain Belt Beer, grocery stores, warehouses, etc. Our instructor, Jay Grammond has been drawn to Fading Ads, or “Ghost Signs” for quite some time. In the Summer of 2020, that interest became so much more when he signed a book deal to publish a book about the topic. Join Jay as he takes you on a virtual walk around the Twin Cities to view this sort of “Art Gallery” that surrounds us. You will also learn a bit about the history of some of these companies that date back into the 1800’s.

    Elder financial abuse, also known as financial exploitation, is the illegal or unauthorized use of an older adult’s funds or resources for the benefit of someone other that the older adult. This includes fraud, theft, and act of deception to gain control over a senior’s money or property. You will learn about common types of financial abuse, indicators and signs, how to report and get help. This class is for older adults and their families.

Should I stay and age in place - making home modifications to reduce safety risks OR should I go – moving to a home option that may be handicapped accessible, single level living? Principles of sharpening will be explained and students will have opportunities to try the techniques demonstrated. We will spend 90 minutes together talking about the history and evolution of this topic and help you understand it in a way that is real and down to earth.     Wood Spoon Carving

    An ongoing weekly opportunity to hone your wood carving skills with professional wood carver George Effrem helping you. You can choose your method-bench carving with long tools and mallet, palm carving with short tools and knives or power carving with your own rotary or reciprocating equipment. Every week we will have short demos of each stage in the process on various techniques and aspects of woodcarving and then you will be able to work on your project/s with instructor guidance. Students will need to purchase their own carving tools. Safety gloves will be provided. A recommended list of tools will be provided after registration. Note: All class participants will be required to fill out an emergency form and sign a waiver of liability on the first night of class.
  • ​The Assassination of President Kennedy: An In-Depth Analysis

    This course aims to analyze the disparities between the findings of the Warren Commission and the United States House of Representatives regarding the assassination of President Kennedy. The Warren Commission, which conducted a ten-month investigation and released its conclusions in September 1964, will be compared with the conclusions reached by the House of Representatives, which conducted a more extensive thirty-one-month investigation and published its report in March 1979. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the controversies surrounding President Kennedy's assassination. The two-day, two-hour sessions are structured to provide ample time for participants to share their comments and pose questions, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment. There is no political agenda, and I am not promoting any products or services. This approach encourages a well-rounded exploration of the subject matter, allowing participants to delve into various perspectives and gain a deeper insight into the complexities surrounding this historical event.
