  • Early Childhood Screening - May 2024

    Screening is a free service required by the State of Minnesota for entrance into Kindergarten. The screening is most valuable soon after your child turns 3 years old. (3 1/2 to 4 years old is the ideal age) Screening includes a vision, hearing, and developmental assessment, as well as an opportunity to discuss any family circumstance that you feel may affect your child’s learning readiness. The screening will help identify any area your child may benefit from early childhood services before they enter school, and connect families with appropriate resources and programs. Screening takes approximately one hour to complete. * Appointments are required. Please Note: Screenings are now being conducted inside Central Early Learning Center – 6300 Walker Street, St. Louis Park, MN. 55416. Please enter door # 3 on the west side of the building. Please check-in at the office. Please complete the four required forms and bring them to your screening appointment. CLICK HERE to access forms.     Thyroid Things You Need To Know

    If you currently take thyroid medication but are still gaining weight and still have a variety of symptoms, there's more you need to know. Fatigue, weight gain, depression, anxiety, rising cholesterol levels, inability to focus, thinning hair, digestive problems, abnormal blood pressure, reduced sex drive, and heart palpitations are only some of the symptoms. In this workshop, we’ll discuss how thyroid function can make any illness worse; the 5 things that need to be measured, but usually aren’t; why the #1 thyroid replacement may not be helping you; connection between thyroid, fibromyalgia and arthritis; foods that help or hinder; commonly misunderstood rules of how and when to take thyroid meds; environmental triggers and info you need to discuss with your doctor.     Sewing Machine Clinic/Learn to Sew Sessions

    Do you have a sewing machine that is gathering dust because you’re not comfortable using it? We will cover basic maintenance and cleaning techniques, then sew simple tote bags. Confident beginners should also have time to choose and sew an accessory such as a scarf or bag with a zipper. Before class begins, please make sure that you have 2 yards of cotton fabric, at least 2 bobbins, at least 2 sewing machine needles, the power cord and foot pedal for your machine, thread, a seam ripper, and the manual for your machine. If you don’t have a manual, we may be able to find a downloadable version online. If your machine has extra feet or tools, make sure you have them ready. If you don’t have a machine, please contact the instructor before class for advice on how to find one.

    The 55+ Driver Discount Program is a state approved accident prevention/insurance discount class that is open to the public. This class provides you with a 10% savings on your automobile insurance premiums for 3 years! It is taught by a certified instructor from MN Highway Safety & Research Center and it provides the latest information in regards to driver and traffic safety, new laws, and vehicle technology. This class has something for everyone! You MUST register by phone at 1-888-234-1294 or online at www.driverdiscountprogram.com, do not register through St. Louis Park Community Education. The fee for the 8-hour initial class is $28 and the 4-hour refresher class is $24. Pre-registration is required. *First time participants must complete the initial 8-hour class to receive the discount and should take a 4-hour refresher class every three years after this to maintain their discount.

    Come play pickleball at the Lenox Community Center! This is open play with no instruction. Pre-registration and pre-payment required. No walk-ins. Equipment will be provided.     Fading Ads of the Twin Cities

    Do you remember seeing those old painted ads on the sides of buildings for Coca-Cola, Grain Belt Beer, grocery stores, warehouses, etc. Our instructor, Jay Grammond has been drawn to Fading Ads, or “Ghost Signs” for quite some time. In the Summer of 2020, that interest became so much more when he signed a book deal to publish a book about the topic. Join Jay as he takes you on a virtual walk around the Twin Cities to view this sort of “Art Gallery” that surrounds us. You will also learn a bit about the history of some of these companies that date back into the 1800’s.
