October 20 - The Presidency on Film: 1897 - 1945
Few people in the history of the world have been as famous as the Presidents of the United States. Nowadays, the President is a daily fixture in our homes, thanks to television. In the early 1900s, though, images of the commander-in-chief were much rarer. In this class, we’ll look at the very first presidents to appear film and see how the media of the day helped shape and preserve their careers. You’ll see tantalizing glimpses of Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, watch clips from the numerous films made to commemorate the assassination of President McKinley, and even view footage from the dark days of both World Wars. North Metro TV Studio Manager and Anoka County Film Historian Eric Houston hosts this amazing look at rare, moving documents of American history.
